Our Bank
Our Beginnings
Founded in 1967 by Alfredo Alcazar Hoezl, a German-Spanish (Filipino by birth), and Jose P. Roces in the laidback but economically significant coastal town of Pilar, Sorsogon, the Rural Bank of Pilar (Sorsogon), Inc. has been steadfast in its mission to serve as a countryside banker, faithfully serving the Bicol community.
Despite prudent management, the Bank faced challenges over the years. In 1987, super typhoon “Sisang” severely impacted the Bicol Region, leading to high past due loans and mounting bills payable that nearly forced the Bank to close operations.
A New Direction
The Roces Family Group, led by Engr. Orlando B. Roces, son of co-founder Jose P. Roces, acquired full ownership of the Bank. This milestone brought a renewed strategic direction, energy, and enthusiasm, driving the institution toward sustained growth.
Today, with more than five decades of service, the Rural Bank of Pilar (Sorsogon), Inc. is among the top-rated rural banks in the country, consistently earning high CAMELS ratings from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. With three branches and four Branch-lite Units, the Bank maintains a strong presence in Sorsogon and Albay provinces.
Our Future
Looking ahead, the Rural Bank of Pilar (Sorsogon), Inc. remains a bank of possibilities. Guided by its vision, the Bank aims to strengthen its operations through innovation, collaboration, and breakthrough thinking that inspire both its people and community.
The Bank continues to be under the regulatory supervision of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), while actively contributing as a member of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP).
